Etobicoke General Hospital

Client: William Osler Health System
Location: Etobicoke, Ontario

Etobicoke General Hospital (EGH) is a full-service community hospital located at Highway 27 and the Humber River. It provides a broad range of inpatient and outpatient care services.  Part of the William Osler Health System, EGH is planning a major expansion of the West Wing facility, to be completed in 2019. The project is being delivered as a Design-Build-Finance-Maintain (DBFM) project under Infrastructure Ontario’s Alternative Finance and Procurement (AFP) model.

PMX is providing project scheduling and advisory services to the William Osler Health System including capital planning, risk management, and operational readiness advisory services throughout all phases of the project.

West Park Healthcare Centre

Client: West Park Healthcare Centre

West Park Healthcare Centre (WPHC) is located on a picturesque piece of land on the banks of the Humber River in West Toronto. This facility is providing specialized rehabilitation, complex continuing, and long-term care services. These services involve helping individuals manage difficult health challenges like lung disease, diabetes, stroke, amputation, and musculoskeletal issues arising from a life-changing event or illness.

WPHC has a plan to develop the hospital and create an integrated healthcare campus that models the way of the future for healthcare delivery, education, and research. This includes development of a new Patient Care Centre which will include rehabilitation and complex continuing care beds, expanded ambulatory services, and state-of-the-art technologies in rehabilitative care enabling WPHC to deliver more advanced and integrated rehabilitative services as a result. This project is being delivered under Infrastructure Ontario’s model of Alternative Finance and Procurement (AFP).

PMX is providing project scheduling and advisory services to WPHC including capital planning, risk management, and operational readiness advisory services throughout all phases of the project.

Facility Redevelopment Program

Client: Therapure Biopharma Inc. (TBI)
Location: Mississauga, ON

Program Completion: March 2015
Program Value: $62 Million

Therapure Biopharma Inc. (TBI) undertook a major renovation of their existing pharmaceutical manufacturing facility located in Mississauga, Ontario. The renovation included demolition of manufacturing space, removal of existing equipment, construction of new clean rooms, installation of new services and equipment, commissioning, and validation. All work was performed without interruption to operations elsewhere within the facility.

The programs undertaken at the facility included:

  • Manufacturing lines for production of 2 human plasma derived coagulation factors ($22M)
  • Manufacturing lines for production of human plasma derived bioscavenger / anti nerve gas agent ($17M)
  • Clinical scale manufacturing of multiple human plasma protein purification ($9M)
  • Aseptic liposome encapsulated antibiotics ($9M)
  • Miscellaneous renovations and additions for campaign manufacturing clean rooms ($3M)
  • Conceptual and detailed engineering design/procurement ready for human plasma derived IgG. ($1M)
  • Conceptual design for commercial plasma protein facility.
  • Site plan application for new facility to house commercial plasma protein manufacturing ($1M)

PMX provided project management services to TBI including design and procurement management, contract administration, and cost and schedule management.

NHS Health Care Complex and Walker Family Cancer Centre

Client: Niagara Health System (NHS)
Location: St. Catharines, Ontario

Project Completion: November 2012
Project Value: $1.3 Billion

Niagara Health System (NHS) has completed the development of a 970,000 SF, state-of-the-art hospital in west St. Catharines. This facility is to support in-patient and out-patient services, including a new cancer centre with the capacity for three radiation machines, a cardiac catheterization lab, long-term mental health facilities, and a full range of acute inpatient and ambulatory services. This was the first Design-Build-Finance-Maintain (DBFM) Hospital project implemented under Infrastructure Ontario’s Alternative Finance and Procurement (AFP) program. The facility is designed to achieve LEED® Silver Certification. 

PMX provided overall project management and Owner’s representation services as part of NHS’ project management team.

West 5th Campus Mental Health and Addiction Hospital

Client: St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton (SJHH)
Location: Hamilton, Ontario

Project Completion: December 2013
Project Value: $1.1 Billion

St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton (SJHH) has completed the redevelopment of the mental health and addiction hospital on the West 5th Campus that opened to the public in February 2014. The new 850,000 SF facility provides: inpatient services for 305 patients, a mental health outreach program, a medical outpatient clinic, an outpatient diagnostic imaging clinic, an educational and research space, and laboratory services. This project was completed while keeping all programs in full operation throughout the redevelopment process. 

PMX provided project management support services as part of the SJHH’s project management team.

CAMH Development Project, Phase 1A & 1B

Client: Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH)
Location: Toronto, Ontario
Phase 1A

Phase 1A
Project Completion: April 2008
Project Value: $35 Million

Phase 1A is the first phase of Centre for Addiction and Mental Health’s (CAMH) 10-year, 3-phase redevelopment plan for its Queen Street site in Toronto. This phase of the redevelopment included CAMH’s modernized core bed buildings for clients of the Geriatric Mental Health Program, and the Child, Youth, and Family Program. Clients experience the benefits of care in new, home-like surroundings with private spaces, washrooms, reflection areas, exercise facilities, and gardens. 

PMX provided financial cost reporting and oversight services to the CAMH project management team and senior management for Phase 1A.

Phase 1B

Project Completion: December 2012
Project Value: $550 Million

Phase 1B is a definitive break from the existing institutional Queen Street campus towards the more integrated, inclusive community. This Design-Build-Finance-Maintain (DBFM) hospital project has 3 new buildings with a total area of approximately 400,000 SF. This includes: (i) off-site leasing and relocation of 40,000 SF administrative programs, (ii) on-site relocation and remodeling of 75,000 SF, and (iii) the construction of over 600 linear feet of new city roads, services, and an electrical substation. 

PMX provided cost management oversight services to CAMH, including: implementation of cost control software, migration and management of historical data, monthly monitoring, and reporting and assisting in internal and external audits.

Research and Learning Tower

Client: The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids)
Location: Toronto, Ontario

Project Completion: February 2014
Project Value: $400 Million

The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is a state-of-the-art research facility built for the purposes of collaborative and interactive interdisciplinary research. The new 750,000 SF facility houses new interconnected research neighbourhoods, meeting spaces, and other support spaces. The building is registered for the Canada Green Building Council’s LEED® AP Gold certification. 

PMX provided project management oversight and senior management advisory services to SickKids in the areas of project planning, project governance and approvals, budget/financial status, schedule progress, project controls, design status/issues, regulatory approvals status, and project risks.

M-Wing Expansion

Client: Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre
Location: Toronto, Ontario

Project Completion: November 2010
Project Value: $200 Million

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre has expanded their M-Wing building on their Bayview Avenue campus in Toronto, Ontario. The 300,000 SF vertical project added four new floors, two medical and two research, to the existing M-Wing building. The two medical floors consist of 120,000 SF to accommodate Sunnybrook’s Women and Babies Program, as well as the Perinatal & Gynaecology (P&G) program. Other features include a state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and expanded capacity for Labour and Delivery. 

PMX provided overall project management services to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre during the construction and transition phase of the project.

Peel Memorial Centre

Client: William Osler Health System
Location: Brampton, Ontario

Project Completion: October 2016
Project Value: $420 Million

The new Peel Memorial Centre will support the William Osler Health System’s vision for an integrated health system by providing primary ambulatory and outpatient-based care. This extensive care includes the development of an ambulatory centre, medical surgical clinics, ambulatory surgery, chronic disease management, and other urgent care facilities. The Centre will also house complex continuing care beds, women and children’s services, and other diagnostic services to support this focused level of care. 

PMX is providing project planning, scheduling, and advisory services to the William Osler Health System.

Systemic Therapy Centre

Client: University Health Network, Princess Margaret Hospital
Location: Toronto, Ontario

Project Completion: 2011
Project Value: $18 Million

The 34,000 SF, multi-phased project of the Princess Margaret Hospital provides chemotherapy, transfusion, and supportive care to cancer patients. Located on Level 4 of the hospital, this additional Systemic Therapy Centre accommodates: reception and triage, 82 intravenous treatment spaces arranged in clusters, a specialized chemotherapy pharmacy supporting standard treatment and clinical trials, and a monitored stretcher area for blood drawing, patient assessment, and recovery. The project also included the relocation of the Lung and Sarcoma Clinic to Level 2 and Prostate Research to Level 3. 

PMX provided overall project management services to the University Health Network, Princess Margaret Hospital.

Darling Home for Kids

Client: Cedarbrook Society
Location: Milton, Ontario

The Darling Home for Kids is a non-profit hospice and respite facility for terminally ill children located north of Milton on the end of the Niagara Escarpment. The facility, which houses up to 12 children and associate staff, was built over a number of years and phases of construction as funding was made available. 

PMX provided project management services to Cedarbrook Society during the final phase of construction.
